Scanning a Camaro Front End to Build a Custom Air Scoop

People ask what we actually use the 3D scanner for. Here's a recent one.

A customer wanted an air scoop for a Camaro. Nothing off the shelf fit the way he wanted, and building it by hand meant a lot of trial fitting on a car that didn't need the abuse.

So we scanned the front end instead.

From there the scoop was designed in Fusion 360 straight against the scan data. In these you can see the CAD model sitting inside the mesh — that's the point of doing it this way. If the fit is off, you find out on screen instead of after you've made something.

What we offer:

  • Creality Sermoon P1 scanner — 0.02 mm accuracy, parts from 5 mm to 4,000 mm
  • Fusion 360 for modeling
  • Bambu Lab X1 Carbon. We stock PLA, ABS and PAHT-CF
  • Haas CNC in house, plus subcontractors for bigger runs

Rates are $185/hour for scanning, $95/hour for CAD design, $15/hour for printing, and CNC is project dependent. There's a $250 minimum. Turnaround depends on the project — tell us what you've got and we'll give you a number before anything starts.

You get editable CAD files — native Fusion 360, plus STEP and IGES — along with STL or OBJ for printing. We keep your scan on file, so if you need another part off it later you're not paying to scan it twice.
